OK, not a new story, but just read Ben Stein's piece on it after lunch today and a few things he said immediately reminded me of my response to the story I posted about this morning, as an example:
This girl was apparently a good student...Yet she somehow thought it was a good idea to do a porn video and when asked why, answered, “I thought it might be fun and I need the money.”
Mr. Stein goes on with a number of other related observations and comments and they all stem, like the problem I discussed this morning, to a serious cultural problem we have of treating the human body and human life as just some commodity, to be bought and sold, owned, used, and discarded if it doesn't suit our immediate pleasure or desire.
People can keep right on criticizing the Catholic Church for being "out of touch" with the modern world. Meanwhile I'm going to be praying to God that my kids aren't touched by this modern world and instead choose to be equally "out of touch" respecting themselves, their fellow man, and most importantly Our Father in heaven that created us in his image, blessed with far more than we will ever be able to appreciate or thanking Him for, and gave every single one of us a dignity that deserves the same respect, love, and concern we would show our dearest child.
